01 / Thesis

Access isn’t the problem. The experience is.

There’s no shortage of information, or of ways to get at it. We think AI’s biggest impact will be changing how people access, consume, understand, and remember information. Permutate builds products that close the gap between accessing information and actually understanding it.

02 / Approach

AI is the tool. Understanding is the product.

Every product we build begins with one question: how should a person actually experience this information? From there we put AI to work. We’re not interested in re-creating what already exists. We start from first principles and rethink the entire product around the person using it and what they’re really trying to accomplish.

What we’re building.

Video Briefs

Reports you can watch.

Dashboards and reports were built for the analysts and operators who live in the details. The people who need the takeaway, investors, owners, and executives, rarely have time to dig through all of it. Video Briefs turns the weekly, monthly, and quarterly reporting they skim into AI-narrated videos and focused dashboards that get to the point. Exploring solutions in commercial real estate, multi-family real estate, and hospitality.

Beat or Bust

Earnings recaps in 30 seconds

Earnings move markets, but the report itself is dense, slow to digest, and buried in filings most people will never open. By the time a readable recap shows up, the moment has passed. Beat or Bust turns each earnings report into a short, watchable recap and posts it as @beatorbust the moment a company reports.

Memories

Mental notes that come back when you need them.

Notes, bookmarks, and reminders are good at storing things and bad at giving them back. Memories lets you capture a thought the moment it happens, then brings it back on demand. Add the memory “Jess recommends the restaurant The Onion Tree,” then recall it naturally: “What restaurants did Jess recommend?”, “Show me Indian restaurants,” “Show me restaurants on Long Island.”

AI Reading Tutor

Where intermediate learners go after the apps.

The big language apps get you started, then leave you stranded. There’s nowhere to go between flashcards and fluency. We’re prototyping a reading experience that fills the gap: feedback as you read, guidance tuned to your level, and real things worth reading instead of the same canned exercises.

AI CFO

A CFO for businesses too small to have one.

Plenty of tools promise an AI CFO, but they assume clean, complete data and integrations. Real businesses don’t run that way. The numbers live across bank accounts, SaaS apps, spreadsheets, and the owner’s head. AI CFO is built for a reality where the call needs to be made without perfect data.

04 / Shut down

Not everything ships.

Shut down

Early Reading Tutor

An AI reading tutor for early elementary students.

What it set out to do

Give every child the experience of reading one on one with a patient tutor. The app listened as kids read aloud, caught specific mistakes, gauged fluency and comprehension, and gave immediate, personalized feedback, combining speech recognition, pronunciation assessment, and conversational AI to build reading confidence at each child’s own pace.

Why we shut it down, and what we learned

We proved the core tutoring experience was possible, then shut it down anyway. The feedback we wanted required several AI systems working together in real time, which meant higher costs and more latency than a young reader can tolerate. Reading help only works when it feels immediate, and the lag kept breaking the flow. We learned a lot about real-time AI: speech processing, assessment, and conversational tutoring. We come back to it every nine months or so as the models improve, and may build it for real down the line.

05 / Contact

Let’s talk.

We’re early, building quietly, and always happy to compare notes with people who care about how information becomes understanding.
